Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Vesper ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our service.
Your Memory Data
Vesper is built around transparent memory. Here's how we handle it:
- Your memory files are yours — All memory (context, goals, episodes, etc.) is stored in your account and can be exported or deleted at any time.
- Conversation content — Messages are processed through Claude (Anthropic) to generate responses and extract memory updates.
- No training on your data — We do not use your conversations or memory to train AI models.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign up, we collect your email address for authentication purposes. We use Clerk for authentication, which may collect additional data according to their privacy policy.
Website Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to understand how visitors use our website. Plausible:
- Does not use cookies
- Does not collect personal data
- Does not track users across websites
- Collects only aggregate statistics
Learn more about Plausible's privacy practices at plausible.io/privacy.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Anthropic (Claude) — AI processing for conversations and memory extraction
- Google (Gemini) — AI processing for large context operations (dream cycle, synthesis)
- Plausible Analytics — Privacy-friendly website analytics
- Clerk — Authentication
- Cloudflare R2 — Memory file storage
- Railway — Application hosting and database
Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
We process your personal data under the following legal bases:
- Contract Performance — Processing your conversations and memory is necessary to provide the Vesper service you signed up for.
- Legitimate Interest — We use privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible) to improve our service. This does not involve personal data.
- Consent — For any optional processing (such as marketing communications, if offered), we will ask for your explicit consent.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including the United States. Our service providers (Anthropic, Google, Clerk, Railway, Cloudflare) are primarily based in the US.
These transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, and the service providers' compliance with applicable data protection frameworks.
Automated Decision-Making
Vesper uses AI (Claude and Gemini) to process your conversations and extract memory updates. This is core to how the service works. However:
- No fully automated decisions with legal or significant effects are made about you
- All memory is transparent and editable — you can review and modify what the AI extracts
- The AI assists your thinking; it does not make decisions on your behalf
Data Retention
- Memory files — Retained until you delete them or your account
- Conversations — Retained until you delete them or your account
- Account data — Retained until you request deletion
- Analytics — Aggregate statistics only, retained for 12 months
Your Rights (GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data and receive a copy
- Export all your memory and conversation data
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete individual memory files or conversations
- Delete your entire account and all associated data (right to erasure)
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (for EU residents, this is your local Data Protection Authority)
